We also give you the option to travel on our buses from El Prat to some of the key points of the city, buying our tickets online. We make it easy for you to enjoy your trip even before you start it.
The most typical tapas
Catalan cuisine has given some of the best internationally known chefs, such as Ferrán Adrià, the Roca brothers, Carme Ruscalleda or Sergi Arola. No wonder this success, since the area is perfectly located between sea and mountains, an advantage to obtain the best raw materials.
At the top of the most traditional appetizers of the city are the calçots, a traditional aperitif consisting of a variety of tender onions cooked on the grill and accompanied with romesco sauce. This typical snack of the best festivities is eaten with your hands, bite by bite. In the same line of tapas with vegetables, there is the escalivada, a recipe that has spread throughout the rest of the country. It consists of the mixture of aubergine, peppers, onion and roasted tomatoes. It is usually served as a tapa on a bread and topped with an anchovy.
Bread with tomato or pa amb tumaquet is one of the most traditional Mediterranean diet snacks. It’s as simple as a piece of coca bread with crushed tomatoes, olive oil, garlic and salt. This bread can be accompanied with ham or with fuet, although by itself it is delicious. Finally, one of the most popular spikes: “las bombas”. These are potato balls and minced meat mixed and breaded as a croquette, a delicious and very crunchy snack. And to give it an extra touch of flavor, they are usually bathed with barbecue sauce and aioli.
The best snack bars
On the side of tradition we present the bar where the famous potato and meat pump was created. La Cova Fumada is a traditional place located in Barceloneta, where it says that the first pump was created in 1955. This space still has the essence of typical wineries, an informal place, the tiled walls and the warmth of the bars always. If you like this bite, we also recommend you try the versions of La Bombeta, Senyor Vermut, Bodega Montferry or a more sophisticated version of Chef Sergi Arola’s hand: a pump made with confit paper and a puree with hints of anise battered with flour.
At the Boquería Market you can choose from a wide gastronomic range with products from the land and the sea. Some of the best places you can eat are Pinotxo, Sant Josep, La Gardunya, El Quim de la Boqueria and Clemen’s Boquería, where you can try baby squids, asparagus and the classic patatas bravas.
To end your route we recommend other places like La Luna, with an extensive menu where you can choose the perfect pincho, or La Fianna, with both vegetarian and meat tapas. Finish your route with the traditional bar of Gracia: Sol Soler, known for its caramelized chicken wings with soy and pepper, and for its bravas and quiches.
Barcelona is a city to get lost and to discover mouth to mouth with the best traditional tapas of its gastronomy. You have not tried them yet? And what are you waiting for?
